Travels

Andersen is recognized in his native Denmark as a novelist and autobiographical and travel writer. Between 1831 and 1867, he made 29 trips throughout Europe and North Africa. Translator Anastazia Little has gathered many of his travel writings which show Andersen accumulating ideas for his stories, displaying neurotic concerns in strange environments, and describing his meetings with Charles Dickens, the Grimm Brothers, Jenny Lind, and Felix Mendelssohn -- all with his marvelous self-humor.
